Size 17 Shoes for a Special Young Man
In early August, Samaritan’s Feet received the email below (shared with permission) from a case manager at a transitional home in New York:
“We house a broad spectrum of clients including homeless US military veterans, women and children, and single men. We currently have an 18 year-old high school student in need of some assistance, and through a Google search I came across your organization. As I mentioned the client is 18 years old and currently in emergency housing. He informed me today that he only has one pair of shoes and they are falling apart and riddled with holes. The client is 6’5 and wears a size 17 shoe which has been trying to locate for him, as he has no income to actually go purchase the shoes even if he could find them. I was wondering if your organization received donations in that area that he might be able to access? I will leave you with my contact information, if someone could get back to me it would be greatly appreciated.”
The Samaritan’s Feet team sprung into action and quickly found a pair of size 17 tennis shoes for the young man. The staff also wrote a few encouraging notes for him as well. The shoes were received and the case manager replied:
“I cannot express enough gratitude for your organizations generosity. The sneakers fit perfectly and the client was so grateful. He was moved by the cards that were sent as well and could not believe that the founder would personally take the time to write to him.”
Samaritan’s Feet was so glad to be able to provide this simple, yet incredibly meaningful gift to this young man.
