Moments in Louisiana

We had a really special shoe distribution at an elementary school in Campti, LA with one of our NIL partners, Sion James, Tulane University Men’s Basketball Team member. Many of his teammates joined him as they served, and we wanted to share a few special moments that happened that day:

One of our volunteers had a student who was struggling to make eye contact, talk, or even acknowledge the volunteer. After a lot of talking, the young man explained how he had been suspended and held back a grade due to anger issues and lashing out. Our volunteer talked with him about his own struggles and ended up really connecting with him and giving him strategies to try. It was a really impactful connection for both the volunteer and the student.

There was a young lady who said that she wanted to be a police officer when asked what her dream was. It just so happened that one of our volunteers was actually a sheriff there in Campti. The young girl was able to meet the sheriff and talk with her about her role in the community as an officer.

The principal of the elementary school said she went into the gym and heard several of the kids calling to the gym teacher saying how much faster they can run in their new shoes! Of course the principal was so delighted to see the smiles on their face and hear their fun comments after receiving the shoes that day.
