Q&A with Amber Ballance

Amber is a staff accountant in the finance department here at Samaritan’s Feet. We spent a few minutes chatting with her about her role with the organization and why she decided to join the team.

Share a little bit about your role and responsibilities at Samaritan’s Feet.

I am a staff accountant on the Finance Team. My primary role is to maintain the financial records. Simply put, I help ensure the money coming in and the money going out goes to the right place and the right program. Whether it’s for a shoe distribution, shoe locker, mission trip, senior program, or someone sending a donation for wherever its needed most, I’m blown away by the support of Samaritan’s Feet’s faithful donors.

How do those tasks make a direct impact on the mission of the organization?

I collect the financial data and details for the Samaritan’s Feet team as they plan and execute the programs. Each person on the team works to ensure shoes and socks get on the feet of the people who need them the most and we couldn’t do it without our donors! In determining whether a business or organization is successful, people often say “let the numbers tell the story.” Our success story would not be possible and could not be told without our faithful donors who make the dream and mission of Samaritan’s Feet a reality.

What do you love most about working here?

The Samaritan’s Feet team is like a small army. The amount of work produced does not match the amount of people on the team. They keep pouring out through their God-given gifts and He continued to multiple their efforts. I am amazed at their ability to continue to serve millions around the world. I count it a privilege to be part of the SF family and serve along side them.

What is your favorite memory from serving with Samaritan’s Feet?

I moved to Charlotte in January 2021. During my first few months as I was acclimating to the area and didn’t know many people, I volunteered here at the warehouse. It was amazing to walk into a room of strangers and feel a sense of belonging because we all had the same heart to serve. I remember touching the first pair of shoes and thinking “these could go anywhere in the world and change someone’s life.” Even though I was miles away from the recipient I felt connected to them and the mission of Samaritan’s Feet as I got to put my hands on the shoes. In that moment I knew my work at Samaritan’s Feet was not just about entering and collecting data, it was about the person who would receive their confidence through the shoes they were given.

What are you most excited about for the future of the organization?

I’m excited about our move to the new facility. Samaritan’s Feet started in Manny and Tracie’s garage and after renting office buildings around the Charlotte area for years they finally have a place to call their own, a home for the organization. At our first team tour of the facility, Derrick Parker, our Warehouse Manager, said it best “the building fits the dream.” I can’t wait to see the dream come alive even more as we have room to grow.
