Q&A with Katie Meyers

Katie serves as the Domestic Programs Manager here at Samaritan’s Feet. She makes sure distributions are ready to go all over the United States. We asked her about her role, how things have changed while dealing with a pandemic, and some of her favorite moments. Read below to see what she says!

Share a little bit about your responsibilities and what you do on a daily basis.

As a Project Manager, I plan shoe distributions all over the country for our corporate and multi-event sponsors. In Domestic Programs, I help keep track of all the projects we do in the U.S., including distributions, shoe drives, Million Shoe Campaign, Domestic Missions, etc.

What changes have you and your team made in order adjust to a county with COVID-19?

Pre-COVID, our shoe distributions centered on foot washing, one-to-one contact, and large scale volunteer opportunities, none of which are possible at this time. However, since our creative Samaritan’s Feet team came up with Hope Notes and Hope Totes, we are able to serve just as many, if not more, people in need now! We're also serving alongside lots of new partners, such as Meals on Wheels, community centers, and other resource agencies.

What do you love most about your job?

Being the bridge between all the Samaritan’s Feet departments.

What is one of your favorite Samaritan’s Feet moments?

I keep a picture* from one of my first distributions. A local football team was helping us serve a school. This big linebacker-type guy was serving a little girl who was very excited to tell him…something. He was rapt, as if she was the only person in the room. Where else can you see that kind of connection?

*See the photo from this moment below.

Anything else you would like to share?

It amazes me daily what Samaritan's Feet is able to accomplish. I think many people would be shocked to learn that we have only about 25-30 people on staff!
