A Little Extra

At a distribution in Beaufort, SC, a non-verbal elementary school student walked up to get her feet washed and receive her new shoes. She was shy and a nearby social worker whispered to the volunteer that this student “needed a little extra love.” The young girl was wearing shoes that were much too small for her. But soon, a bright pair of pink, sparkly shoes were shown to her and her demeanor completely changed: she was smiling, proud, and excited. The volunteer shared a sweet hug with the student and the social worker added “this really means everything to these students…because you’re showing love.”
