Indigenous Groups in Honduras

One of our partners, Food for the Poor, sent us an impact report Honduras detailing one of our distributions together. Check it out:

La Montaña de La Flor is a rugged area in central Honduras approximately 170 kilometers [about 106 miles] from Tegucigalpa. It is home to the Tolupan people, an indigenous group of families who also inhabit the northwestern coast of the country.

The Tolupan people live in a mountainous designated reservation and have maintained their traditional way of life throughout the years. The families support themselves through coffee farming and depend on each other for other needs.

“Traveling to the community is a depressing experience because the people do not have adequate living conditions,” explained Heydy Bu, a representative of Food For The Poor’s in-country partner representative.

“The distribution of the shoes was of great help and importance, since most of these people go into the fields with either broken shoes or with no shoes at all.”

These are people, including children, who have only the basics to live.

“To be able to contribute to this community is a blessing because we know how much need there is, and we have Food For The Poor and its generous donor [Samaritan’s Feet International] to thank for this opportunity,” Heydy concluded.
