Elderly Home in Jamaica
One of Samaritan’s Feet trusted partners is Food for the Poor. Around 60 boxes of shoes were recently distributed with Food for the Poor in Jamaica. A few heart-warming, transformative moments unfolded when residents received a blessing of new shoes:
Located in the parish of St. Catherine in Jamaica is St. Monica’s Home for the Elderly, a haven for 16 residents and their devoted staff.
Hermine, Manager of St. Monica’s Home for the Elderly for the past 25 years, recollected, “If we were to buy shoes, it would usually be around Christmas when we get funds. We would buy sandals for Christmas presents, but generally, it is not in the budget because we rely on funds from external donors.”
Regarding the invaluable donation from Samaritan’s Feet, Hermine emphasized, “It came in handy, very practical, very necessary, and very useful. It put us in a better position. We were able to put those sandals on their feet, keeping them warm."
She concluded, “The residents keep asking if they will be receiving any more sandals. They are comfortable, they love them.”
Donna is a housekeeper at St. Monica’s Home for the Elderly. She has been working there for several years. Conveying her appreciation for the sandals, she said, “I don’t just like them, I love them! I love these sandals; they are very comfortable.”
This pair of sandals is convenient for Donna because of the nature of the job and strain that affects her feet. Sometimes, the shoes she wears get very uncomfortable when she has to spend hours on her feet or when she has to move around constantly.
“This pair of shoes will help me to move up and down because I really move around a lot, and it helps my feet,” she expressed. “Thank you very much, donors, for this pair of sandals that was gifted to me, I really appreciate it.
“God bless you all.”
