Giving Hope in Haiti

Haiti is the most impoverished country in the Western Hemisphere. Additionally, Haiti is currently facing violence throughout the country. One of our partners, Food for the Poor, shared a few stories from their distribution of shoes in a children’s home, a community organization, and a residential area. See how a pair of shoes are giving hope during a dark to those in Haiti:

L’Orphelinat Maison Notre Dame de la Charité
Children’s Home

The founder of the children’s home, Sr. Eliane St. Jacques, said, “our goal is to guide children in regaining their identity and a positive place in society. With donations such as these, we can continue to provide an array of necessities to the children.”

Missionaries of the Poor
Religious Organization

“The mission home provides housing to mentally and physically challenged children and young adults,” Valentine Guirand, a representative of Food For The Poor’s in-country partner, said. “The center is comprised of four dormitories, a bathroom, kitchen, office, laundry room, social hall and pharmacy, and is built on a plot of land big enough for growth and expansion, farming and raising livestock for the needs of the mission.”

Kkottongnae Village
Residential Village

Sister Matthias Choi heads the Haiti mission of the Kkottongnae Sisters of Jesus. “The Kkottongnae activity includes feeding and aiding people who have been abandoned in the streets,” Valentine said. “It provides a haven for the elderly, abandoned adults and children, providing them with accommodation and medical care. “As always, we are always overjoyed to receive these donations. They are a tremendous help, and our residents are always grateful for them. Thank you.”
