Serving Women in India
We have a team serving in India right now, and just a few days ago, they served a very special group of women and their children in Kasumper Village in New Delhi.
Due to special customs in the area, only the women on the team served the women at this distribution. The children ran quickly to have their feet washed and receive a new pair of shoes, but then the mothers were hesitant. The team learned that the women in this area are considered a low caste. They are never served, as they are customarily the ones serving others; and they are often not shown compassion or respect. So, the women stayed in their seats, shy and not willing to come up. The team kept encouraging with smiles and joyful attitudes, and a few minutes later the first woman came to be served. Then, like a domino effect, the others hopped to have their feet washed.
After the women were served, their shyness turned to pride and joy. They eagerly took photos with the women who served them, hugging them and calling them beautiful. The atmosphere had certainly changed in the small room that day.
